Power Disconnect Alert

What It Is

Power Disconnect Alerts notify you the moment a GPS device loses external power—whether due to tampering, a dead battery, or routine service where the battery is temporarily disconnected. Alerts are sent by SMS and/or email, and you can add multiple recipients. The system also notifies you when power is restored, so you have a complete record of disconnections and reconnections.

Why It’s Important

A loss of power can signal risk—or simply maintenance. Immediate visibility lets you act fast when it matters (potential tamper/removal) and avoid unnecessary escalations when it’s benign (shop service, battery swap). With both disconnect and reconnect events logged and timestamped, you maintain clear, auditable history across your portfolio.

Key Highlights

  • Instant notifications for both power disconnect and power reconnect
  • Multi-recipient support — add several emails and phone numbers
  • Default coverage — if not customized, alerts send to the account email on file
  • On-screen warning — pop-up notification on the LocateLive page if a device is disconnected
  • Full audit trail — view timestamped disconnect/reconnect events under the device’s Reports section
  • Context-aware — use alerts to distinguish potential tampering from routine vehicle service

How to Use Power Disconnect Alerts

  1. Confirm recipients: In your account’s notification settings, add the emails and phone numbers that should receive power alerts. (If you don’t add any, alerts go to the account email on file by default.)
  2. Monitor in LocateLive: When you locate a device, a pop-up will appear if that unit has recently lost power, including the timestamp.
  3. Review history: Open the device’s Reports section to see a chronological list of all power disconnect and reconnect events for that unit.
  4. Take action: If a disconnect occurs unexpectedly, switch to LocateLive to monitor movement, set a Speed Alert for low-speed motion, or apply Geofencing as needed.

Notes & Best Practices

  • A disconnect alert does not automatically mean tampering—it can also result from dead batteries or shop service.
  • Use the reconnect alert and report timestamps to understand the context before escalating.
